Upcoming Special Election on August 11!
CALLING ALL DEMOCRATS!
Get ready, and mark your calendars! August 11 we go back to the polls. This will be the 3rd Primary election for Chilton County. If you didn’t vote previously PLEASE MAKE A PLAN TO VOTE. Exercise your right to vote. There are 4 democrats and 2 republicans running for District 6.
Got questions? We did too. We did some digging and found some answers at Alarise.org:.
1. What’s happening with special elections for Congress? Do I have to vote again?
Alabama is redoing primary elections for U.S. House Districts 1, 2, 6 and 7. This means if you live in all of south Alabama and large parts of central Alabama, including most of metropolitan Birmingham, Montgomery, Mobile, Dothan and the Black Belt, the votes cast in those U.S. House primary races on May 19 were voided. New special primary elections to select major party candidates are scheduled for Tuesday, Aug. 11.
This new congressional map will go into effect for the special primary elections scheduled for Tuesday, Aug. 11:

Above: The new district lines for Congressional Districts 1, 2, 6 and 7 will go into effect for the Aug. 11, 2026, special primaries and the Nov. 3, 2026, general election.
2. Who will appear on the ballot for the congressional special primaries in August?
The special primary election will be to select the parties’ nominees for the November ballot. So it’s important to keep in mind that not every race will have a contested primary, even if the primary race has to be redone. If only one candidate from the party qualified for the race, there will be no special primary for that party.
- Congressional District 6: Voters in Chilton County will have two candidates on the Aug. 11 Republican primary ballot: Case Dixon and incumbent U.S. Rep. Gary Palmer. This district’s voters will have four candidates on the Aug. 11 Democratic primary ballot: Jacob Bouma-Sims, Ashtyn Kennedy, Maurice Mercer and Keith Pilkington.

4. How does this impact the votes already cast in the May 11 primary elections?
The August special election will be a redo for only the four U.S. House races and two state Senate primary races mentioned above. Votes previously cast for candidates in those districts will be void, and any runoffs that were set to occur as a result of those primaries will not occur.
5. Why is this happening?
Republican leaders in Alabama are following the lead of President Trump and several Republican-controlled states by taking the unprecedented step of redistricting in the middle of an election cycle, redrawing maps to benefit Republican candidates. This was done in response to a Supreme Court decision, Louisiana v. Callais, issued on April 29, 2026. That 6-3 ruling changed the legal interpretation of the Voting Rights Act, removing some of the key legal protections in place to protect voting power for Black and Hispanic voters. Redistricting is another term for REDLINING.
Chris Pringle- R (Mobile) spoke out in Montgomery saying admitting that district 6 is a PURPLE district:
“They will retaliate, you do know that right? Gary Palmer is our most conservative member and they’ll replace him. Do you want to lose Gary Palmer?”
– Chris Pringle- original sponsor of 2023 map
Actions To Take:
- Check AlabamaVotes.gov to make sure your voter registration and polling place information are correct.
- Text or call 10 friends and family members and make sure they are registered to vote and understand what’s on the ballot this summer.

Peach Jam 2026!
Pictured above: Clanton Mayor Jeff Price, MD, 2026 Alabama Democratic Governor candidate Doug Jones, 2026 Democratic Candidate for Ag Commissioner Ron Sparks, Everett Wess, 2026 Democratic candidate for United States Senate, 2026 Democratic Candidate for Lt. Governor Phillip Ensler, and 2026 Democratic Secretary of State candidate Wayne Rogers posed for a group photo at The ALDEMS–Chilton County Democratic Party booth at the 2026 Peach Jam Jubilee!
The ALDEMS–Chilton County Democratic Party information booth at the 2026 Peach Jam Jubilee was a HUGE success!
Beginning at 9:00 am, our County Chair Ralph Hendrix joined Democrat Candidate for Ag Commissioner Ron Sparks in the Peach Parade! We had a chance to spend some time with Ron after the parade while he joined us back at our Peach Jam information booth. Ron Sparks won Chilton County in his previous (2002) candidacy for the same position.
He plans to help Alabama get back on track. Ron is part of the “Ticket for Change” that Doug Jones has been able to assemble for the first time since 2008! A Democrat is on the ballot for 7 of the 10 state positions that are currently up for grabs.
4 of the 7 candidates joined us at the 2026 Peach Jam! This was an historic event for Clanton. It has been decades since the city of Clanton has had so many Democratic candidates in one place at once.
Joining Ron Sparks was Democratic Candidate for Lt. Governor Phillip Ensler, Secretary of State candidate Wayne Rogers, and Alabama Gubernatorial candidate Doug Jones. We also spent some time with Everett Wess, 2026 Democratic candidate for United States Senate. If elected, Mr. Wess will claim the seat currently held by Republican Tommy Tuberville. He will be up against ultra conservative Trump-endorsed Barry Moore.
And that’s not all-on Friday night, June 26th, Sheila McNeil, Democratic Candidate for Alabama Public Service Commission (Place 2) was at Peach Jam and stopped by the Chilton County Democratic Party booth. On Saturday the 27th, some representatives for Ashtyn Kennedy, who is a candidate in the 2026 Special Democratic Primary seeking the nomination to represent the redrawn 6th Congressional District of Alabama in the U.S. House of Representatives stopped by our booth to leave some information and encourage others to vote in the upcoming August 11th Primary Runoff Election. And many people stopped by with questions, comments or just to say hello, or register to vote!
Senator Jones spent time shaking hands, posing for pictures and talking to people from all walks of life about their struggles, hopes for the future and how oppressively hot it was! Senator Jones found common ground with every single person as they patiently waited in LINES, in 98 degree heat for a chance to meet him. Senator Jones is very appreciative of the Democratic base. Those true blue voters who’ve stood behind the Democratic ticket regardless. And in Chilton County, as many people who’ve lived here their entire lives understand, there have been times when professing to be a Democrat could be harmful.
But the times are a changing, and the tide is turning. The town, county and district we live in are all making a shift. Excitement is brewing again. Tones are changing. People, red, blue or purple are hurting in Alabama because of the policies coming from Washington to Montgomery. Unchecked power.
Saturday, June 27 was a litmus test to a degree. And trust me, we felt it in the air. In every conversation that we had. Even our younger generation showed up to cheer Doug as he entered Ollie Park heading to our small blue tent. But the crowd was anything but small. Chants for “Doug Jones” filled the air, and there was a great level of excitement; it was magical, encouraging, inspiring, and energizing. During the event, Clanton Mayor Jeff Price, MD was gracious enough to stop by our booth and join a group photo of all of the candidates who joined us on Saturday.
Be a part of this moment. Our time is now. Our future depends on the Alabama Democratic Party to bring sanity back to Montgomery. We the people are unifying.
Want to be a part of the rising Blue Wave? Join the Chilton County Democratic Party at one of our meetings, sign up to volunteer with Doug Jones‘ campaign, and most importantly of all, make sure your voter registration is current and help us get out the vote this November!

The Chilton County Democratic Party used to have the ear of the entire state of Alabama. What happened? Find out how and what you can do to bring the Democratic Party back to life in Alabama.
This election is more important than perhaps any state election we’ve seen in recent history.
This is our year. Now is our time to secure the FUTURE of Alabama. Why do you think Tommy Tuberville is trying so hard to stay on the ballot? He is being pushed by the National Republican MAGA Party and Donald Trump. Why? Because they realize how much of an impact it would be if they LOSE Alabama. It’s the domino effect.
Let’s get involved. For once, we need to see ALABAMA lead the charge to change this rigged game. We can. But we MUST want to change it. We all have seen just how far the elite majority party in Montgomery will go to rig the game. Even our own elected Secretary of State Wes Allen is in the fight against Alabama’s constitution.
SOUND FAMILIAR? IT’S IN THE HERITAGE FOUNDATION PLAYBOOK: PROJECT 2025.
Please Join us in welcoming Doug Jones to Chilton County on Saturday, June 27th between 11:00am and 1:00pm, and find out more!
