SB360 threat, HB275 opportunity

SB360 threat, HB275 opportunity

SB360 threat, HB275 opportunity

You may be up to speed already on SB360 and HB475, but if not, here’s a brief description from Energy Alabama:

Two bills. Two very different futures for your Alabama Power bill.

SB360 — the “Power to the People Act” — sounds promising. But buried inside it is a provision giving the Governor’s hand-picked Secretary of Energy control over the PSC’s agenda and personnel. That’s not power to the people. That’s a backdoor political takeover of utility regulation. We beat HB 392 to protect your vote. We’re not handing that power to a new government official now.

HB475 is the real deal. It requires rate hearings under oath, reduces Alabama Power‘s outrageous profit margins, and bans them from charging you for their lobbying and political activities. Real oversight. Real relief.
Your legislators need to hear from you right now!

The Senate has passed SB360 and it’s in the House. If passed there, the law will require a PSC transition from three to seven elected members—but that transition will begin with four July appointments by Kay Ivey; that means a 7-0 GOP Commission at least until January. And even if Dems win both PSC seats on the ballot in November, the best we’d see until the 2028 election would be a 5-2 GOP commission.

Following are two legislative contact links provided by Energy Alabama. I urge you to spread word about the immediate need to ask House members to vote NO on SB360 and YES on HB475. Our hopes to win a 2-1 PSC majority November 3 and real regulatory change depend on it!

Please vote NO on SB360

Please vote YES on HB475

January 8th, 2026-Special Guest Speaker Yolanda Flowers

January 8th, 2026-Special Guest Speaker Yolanda Flowers

January 5, 2026 by admin in 2026 General Election 2026 General Election Alabama Democratic Party Campaign Election Government News Press

Yolanda_Flowers
Our next meeting-and our first for 2026-will be held on Thursday, January 8th at 6:00 pm at our NEW meeting location, Brandon’s Place, which is located at 1204 2nd Ave N, Clanton, AL 35045.

All are welcome to attend, regardless of membership status.

We are pleased to announce our Special Guest Speaker Yolanda Flowers, Qualified Candidate for Governor of Alabama 2026, who will be presenting her platform with a Q&A session following her presentation.

Yolanda Rochelle Robinson-Flowers announced my candidacy for governor on September 23, 2025, for the 2026 gubernatorial election. I am a native of Birmingham, where I attended Henry J. Oliver Elementary School and graduated from Woodlawn High School in 1978. I am a widow, a mother of three, a grandmother of 12, and a great-grandmother of five, soon to be six. When I ran for governor in 2022, I had never run for a political office on this magnitude. It was exceptionally grievous because I had buried my husband of 43 years due to cancer, three months before I announced. I obtained an associate’s degree in Speech, a bachelor’s degree in Audiology, and a master’s degree in Rehabilitation Counseling from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville.

I am a member of the Metro Birmingham Chapter of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC), serving as Youth Director. Additionally, I am a member of the Metro Birmingham Chapter of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), a member of THE American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), a member of Alabama Arise, and a member of the Mizpah Grand Chapter Order of the Eastern Star, Hagar Chapter #7. Furthermore, I serve as the Minister of Music at Mount Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church and the musician for the Women’s Division of the New Era Progressive Baptist State Convention of Alabama. Currently, I volunteer my service as the Speech Therapist at Miracle Academy Christian School of Birmingham.

Having made history when I ran for governor in 2022, I continue to travel the state, a service no other candidate has ever done, teaching and meeting with various leaders regarding the inequities displayed in our state; teaching all citizens, who desire to know, on God and Government: The Historical, Biblical, and Constitutional Perspectives, and feeding the homeless, conducting voter registration drives, and serving the poor.

We look forward to interesting conversation, discussion and shared ideas. Please join us-and bring a friend who might be interested in attending as well-as we discuss what promises to be an exciting year with the upcoming midterm elections coming up in November 2026 and many other exciting developments and plans.

If you would be interested in becoming more involved in our leadership or committees,
please provide your contact information by sending an email.

Doug Jones will enter 2026 Alabama governor’s race

December 5, 2025 by admin in 2026 General Election 2026 General Election Alabama Democratic Party Campaign Election Government News Press Uncategorized

From MSN.com:

“Following weeks of hints and speculation, it’s official: former U.S. Sen. Doug Jones plans to enter the Alabama governor’s race against current U.S. Sen. Tommy Tuberville.”

The news was first reported on “The Voice of Alabama Politics,” an online news and analysis show hosted by Bill Britt, editor of the Alabama Political Reporter. “I got a call from those very, very close to former U.S. Senator Doug Jones,” said Britt. “And we can now report with certainty that Doug Jones will file his paperwork with the Secretary of State this coming week to run for governor of Alabama.”

AL.com has independently confirmed that Jones intends to run.”

Second ‘No Kings’ protests planned nationwide on Oct. 18.

Second ‘No Kings’ protests planned nationwide on Oct. 18.

October 4, 2025 by admin in Activism Government News Uncategorized

What are the “No Kings” protests?

The “No Kings” movement, launched by Indivisible, a nonprofit coalition of political action groups, is organizing events in response to what they describe as increasingly authoritarian tactics by President Donald Trump.

The group says Trump is “disappearing immigrants,” deploying troops to cities and threatening democratic processes through voter suppression and redistricting efforts. “The president thinks his rule is absolute,” the group said in a statement. “But in America, we don’t have kings, and we won’t back down against chaos, corruption and cruelty.”

The protests are intended to be nonviolent.

In June, more than 5 million people across all 50 states joined in “No Kings” events. Indivisible says it was one of the largest movements in American history, and they expect the Oct. 18 movements to be bigger and stronger.

These 12 events are set for Alabama.

Where can Alabamians join the movement in Montgomery?

In Montgomery, participants will meet at Riverfront Park, located at 355 Commerce St., from 9 a.m. to noon. They will march to the downtown fountain, rally and then return to Riverfront Park. The event meets ADA standards, and the route is mainly flat ground. There will be ASL interpretation available.

Other “No Kings” events to happen across Alabama

There will be 12 events taking place across Alabama.

Here’s where Alabamians can join in outside the Montgomery area:

Other Nearby Locations

  • Athens: North Jefferson Street & Market Street West, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
  • Huntsville: The event address is private and requires an RSVP. The event will be held from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.
  • Guntersville: Marshall County Courthouse, 10 a.m. to noon.

  • Birmingham: Railroad Park Foundation, 10 a.m. to noon.
